SUMMARY:Sumner Parade and Ice Cream Truck 2025
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars. The 4th annual Sumner Parade is back! \nOn a late Saturday morning\, an ice cream truck will lead a small-scale walking parade through Sumner\, about 0.7 miles. At the end of the parade (the SAN Lot)\, the ice cream truck will stop and distribute FREE ice cream to everyone present. Additional fun (music\, games\, face-painting\, mingling) will ensue. \nDetails:\nWhen: Saturday\, August 2\, 2025. 11:00am – 12:30 \nWhere:  \n\nParade Start: 87th and Going Street. Meet at 11:00am!\nParade in Motion: 11:10 – 11:30am\nParade Ending: SAN Lot\, 11:30 – 12:30ish\n\n  \nParade Route\n\n  \nWays to Participate\n\nBe in the Parade! – You can ride a bike\, waive a giant flag\, walk your dog in a flamboyant costume\, build a huge floral float\, juggle\, hoola-hoop\, maneuver a skateboard or scooter\, play an instrument\, balance on stilts\, hand out treats\, bounce on a pogo stick\, rock a tuxedo\, or just simply walk down the streets in plain clothes. Almost anything goes.\nSpectate –  Sit or stand anywhere along the parade route. Contribute whoops and cheers to encourage the paraders in their festive migration. And feel free to join the parade mid-way through.\nEat Ice Cream – Go to the SAN Lot at 92nd and Humboldt where the parade ends to get your free ice cream. Enjoy with neighbors. [NOTE: Unlike normal ice cream trucks\, the one leading the parade will NOT stop to sell you ice cream\, no matter how badly you want it to]\nParty – The ending will (hopefully) feature a slew of activities\, including\n\nMusic\nFace-painting\nCornhole and giant Connect 4\nPup cups (whipped cream cups for dogs)\nShade tents\nHydration station\n\n\n\n  \nSafety Notes\n\nThe roadways are NOT being officially closed to car traffic. When necessary\, assume an appropriate posture of a pedestrian and allow cars to pass\nKeep your eyes open and use good judgement. Do not assume cars will stop.\nEveryone is responsible for their own safety and the safety of their dependents.\n\n  \nFAQ’s\nQ: What is the theme of the parade? \nThe theme is “parade”! Wear or bring whatever you feel like parading with\, whether its your Wookie-costume or your favorite t-shirt. There are no judges at this parade\, but there is street-cred handed out to those who earn it. \nQ: What is the cost? OR Who is paying for this? \nThe Sumner neighborhood association is paying for the ice cream and all associated costs. This is made possible by a Resiliency Grant that we’ve received from Metro. \nQ: Can I drive my car in the parade? \nUnfortunately\, we can’t have any motor vehicles as parade participants. \nQ: Are pets allowed? \nYes!
