The first monthly Sumner Association of Neighbors (SAN) litter patrol met last Saturday, Feb 27, with little fanfare.

You might’ve seen us out there. There were four of us with orange vests, garbage bags and pickers. From NE 87th we moved east on NE Prescott and NE Going to NE 91st and the overpass on NE Sandy Blvd. Then we came back westbound on NE Sandy to NE 87th.

We spent two hours & filled six garbage bags worth of litter. One particular hot spot was the side of the nail shop at NE 91st and Going.

(We hope to add a pic or two to this post soon.)

Several people who signed up couldn’t make it. Though disappointing — it was a gorgeous morning — our expectations for turnout were limited. We did not send postcard or email reminders to anyone beforehand, so we’d have a true baseline of support. Next time expect a personal invitation!

As mentioned, this was our very first of the Sumner litter patrols. We will hold them on the last Saturday each month throughout the year. Our next litter patrol is Saturday, March 27 at 10 AM. We’ll meet at the usual place: The CNN office, around the side of Fire Station 12, at 4415 NE 87th Ave (between NE Sandy and NE Prescott).

Next month, instead of walking the bus route like last time, we plan to go into the residential areas. Please join us. If you saw how much four people picked up in two hours, you’d be amazed at how much 8 or 12 people can do in the same amount of time.
